Hangover Sunday

Oh my god, I have the horrors today. Drank far too many belgian beers last night. Started to watch 'The Las Vegas Hillbillys' starring Jayne Mansfield and Mamie Van Doren this afternoon. Unfortunately it put me to sleep within thirty minutes, so I'll have to try it again (when I have an hour to bore myself with). Even though the film has the two blondes mentioned, the film looks dreadful and when Ferlin Husky sings, his mouth movements make me feel sick.
That's all for now. I'm shaking too much.

Hooray for holiday

Well, that's me finished work for 16 days. Yay!

Watched the DVD of 'Bug' last night and it was as good if not better than I had remembered. It kind of goes trippy when the professor hides away in that house to create a superbug (why?, his wife had just been burnt to death by one). I thought it was a nice touch when his deceased wife's friend drops by to give back the bible she had borrowed and gets killed by the bugs - hilarious. No extras on the disc to speak of, which is a shame, well it was cheap and the picture was great. I did have to keep turning the sound up and down though, but that could have been because my flat mate was showering then cooking rather noisily.

Yesterday Herbert Lom came in the shop again, he is so cool. He only wanted a bag to put some items his was giving to a charity aution. Mental note: must buy a nice poster featuring him to get signed next time he's in. I asked him to sign my DVD of 'And Now The Screamiing Starts!' last time. I don't want to appear too keen, I could end up looking like a stalker. And today the auther Robert Tanitch was in the shop again getting a cover of his re-released book 'Brando' framed. He's nice too, we talked at length about various films and what ones we were 'into'. While I'm name-dropping I might as well say I see Caroline Munro on a regular basis too, she doesn't come into the shop and I've never spoken to her, I just see her with one of her daughters (picking her up after school, I presume) - I wish I had the courage to ask her to sign something, especially my DVD's of 'I Don't Want To Be Born', 'Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter' & 'Dracula A.D. 1972'. Maybe one day I will. . .

Back to DVD's. . . I picked up three in France earlier this month 'Dementia 13', 'Nightmare in a Damaged Brain' & 'Manhattan Baby' all for 7 euros, well cheap. I'm going to flog 'Manhattan Baby', while I love Lucio Fulci's giallo's this did nothing for me what-so-ever. The sax soundtrack was so annoying and out of place, it was the kind of 'music' you usually hear on some crappy soft porn of the 80's. And what IS that blond child (who's also in 'The House by the Cemetery' and a few others)? Surely someone should have cut his hair? I really wanted to punch him.

While in France, some bastard broke into the place we were staying and stole my mobile and Matt's ipod. So, yesterday I got a new phone. God! I am scarily out of touch with modern technology, it's gunna take me ages to work out what to do with it. At the moment, when it rings, it vibrates and has flashing lights. The tune is hideous and really loud too. Tsskkk.

Well, thats all for now. I need a 'lucky strike' and another cuppa.

New to me DVD

Well, it's freezing here in the eastend of London. Luckily I have turned the heating up to the max. For the last few hours I have been playing on the web, drilling into my bedroom walls and making soup (god, how dull). My newly acquired DVD's this week are 'Forbidden Zone' (yet to watch), 'Brotherhood of Satan' & 'Bug'. Can't wait to see 'Bug' again, I remember watching it years ago and laughing at it, especially the burning hair/wig scene and the bit where said bugs spell out 'we live'! I've never seen 'Brotherhood of Satan' before so can't comment yet, the same for 'Forbidden Zone', now that looks insane. . .
Got outbid on ebay last night. Tsskkk. I had bid £25 on a japanese import of 'Knife of Ice' (Il Coltello di ghiaccio) starring Carroll Baker. I really, really wanted that. Would have gone so nicely with my other import of 'Death Laid an Egg', starring the gorgous Gina Lollobrigida. I love giallo films and wish I didn't have to rely on rubbish copies from sellers on ebay, I'm sure hundreds of people would agree with me. Oh well at least I'm off to Naples next week, hopefully I will find some great DVD's that aren't going for ridiculous amounts of cash. I really want to find Antonio Margheriti's 'Killer Fish', Stelvio Massi's 'Squadra volante', Bruno Corbucci's 'Squadra antiscippo' and Umberto Lenzi's 'Nightmare Beach' (especially as I have heard so many dreadful reviews of that one). I've also noticed that Peter Sasdy's 'Nothing But The Night' is available in Italy on DVD, really hope I can get that too, if it doesn't have burnt on subtitles or is dubbed into italian. God! Diana Dors is hilarious in that film. That's all my ranting for one day. . .

In the beginning

Well, I don't know where to start. Erm, oh yes, I wanted to do this so I could remember certain films I had watched - being a huge fan mainly of 'bad' films (many of which are totally forgettable) I need a list of ones I love and ones which are rubbish. Last week I saw 'Terror' directed by Norman J. Warren 1978. Thought it was brilliant, a lot gorier than I was expecting too. Having the actress who plays 'Trixie Trouble' from Victoria Wood's 'Acorn Antiques' was an added bonus (shame she didn't have more of a role, or at least a death scene. . .) The car floating in the tree tops (!) was a new one and a tad dodgy. All in all very good and had moments that made me laugh out load. Recently saw 'Satan's Slave' & 'The Fiend' too (UK TV is being kind of late) 'Satan's Slave' (directed by Norman J. Warren again 1976) was cool, but apart from the eyeball stabbing death scene and the starring role of Michael Gough, I found it ultimately forgettable. 'The Fiend' (Robert Hartford-Davis 1971) however was just great and reminded me somewhat of 'Die Die My Darling!' (though sadly without a huge, huge female star of yesteryear). It's the story of an unhinged bloke who lives with his equally mad religious-fanatic mother in a house/chapel who goes around killing young women, so he can 'save them'. Patrick Magee ('And Now the Screaming Starts!') plays an equally mad preist - what happens to him at the end with the cross is just brilliant! Great London locations, groovy fashions, superb gospel soundtrack and great death scenes. . . Why isn't this on DVD yet?
